Money left in an ePayments account is now a question for the team handling the case. Start by checking the exact balance you believe is unpaid. Keep each currency separate and follow the official claim instructions. An old withdrawal request may not be enough.
What does special administration mean?
It is a legal process for dealing with a failed payment firm and customer money. The FCA names Mark Boast and Allister Manson of Opus as administrators. Administration does not itself establish fraud.
Check that your records name ePayments Systems Limited. A similarly named app or another payment service is not automatically part of this case.
How do you claim money left in the account?
Use the administrators' official contact details linked in the FCA notice. Ask which claim instructions now apply and how to submit your balance record. Do not treat a reply saying your email arrived as confirmation that every required step is complete.
Two useful questions are: “Is my balance recorded correctly?” and “Do you need a claim form or further evidence from me?” Keep the answer and any reference number.
Does FSCS cover your ePayments balance?
FSCS is the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme. It can compensate eligible customers when certain financial firms fail. The FCA says it does not cover EPS payment services. Safeguarding means customer money had to be kept separately. It is different from compensation cover. The administrators must check the funds.
Do not apply a bank deposit limit to an e-money balance. A real firm being regulated does not mean every service has the same protection.
Prepare a useful balance record
- Find your last account statement and account reference.
- List money paid in, transfers out and refunds already received. Keep dates and currencies separate.
- Save any old withdrawal request and the reply. Note whether it was completed or only accepted for processing.
- Write down the balance you believe remains. Explain any difference from the last statement.
- Use the official Opus contact route linked from the FCA notice. Ask what further form or evidence is needed.
Send only what the official team requests through its confirmed channel. Keep a copy of your claim and any reference number. Never include a password, one-time code or full card details.
What if you already complained?
A complaint letter, an offer of compensation and a customer balance are different records. Keep all three if you have them. Tell Opus about a complaint that is still open or unpaid offer, and ask how it should be recorded.
Do not assume that an earlier promise of payment has been completed. Check what reached your bank and what remains outstanding.
What is still unknown?
The public information reviewed does not establish your final return or payment date. It also cannot settle a disputed personal balance. Treat claims that everyone will be repaid in full with care.
Paying for help cannot move you ahead in the queue. Be cautious if someone says they can unlock the account for a fee. Verify unexpected messages through the published case page, not the contact details in the message.
Be careful if someone offers to recover this money for a new fee. Read how to check a recovery offer before paying.
Do you need someone to submit the claim for you?
The FCA says most clients will not benefit from using a third party to make the claim. You can deal directly with the administrators. Our free consultation is optional help understanding your records and questions; it does not buy access to a different payment queue.
