This policy explains what personal information this site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to [the business or individual name operating this site] ("we", "us").
What we collect, and why
- Scam reports (via the report form): the company/domain details and description you provide, and your email address. Used to review and, where it checks out, investigate and publish a report — and to follow up with you if we need more information. The report form doesn't accept file uploads.
- Free-help requests (via Get help or the short form at the bottom of an article): your name, contact details (email and/or phone), country, what happened, and any financial details you choose to share (for example an approximate amount lost). Used only to have a team member reach out to you about your own request.
- Verified-platform introductions (on the Verified platforms page, where enabled): your name, email and/or phone number, submitted with your explicit consent to be introduced to that specific platform. See our Terms for how these introductions work and what compensation, if any, is involved.
- Article feedback (the 👍/👎 widget at the end of articles): just a yes/no vote and a hashed technical identifier used only to stop the same visitor voting twice on the same article — no name, email or other personal data is collected here.
- Technical/abuse-prevention data: we hash (irreversibly scramble) the IP address behind form submissions, and keep that hash only to rate-limit abuse and review suspicious activity — we don't log or store your raw IP address for any other purpose. Page views are counted as simple totals per article, not tied to any visitor or cookie.
- Admin accounts: our own staff logins use an essential session cookie. This is unrelated to anything a visitor to the public site does.
We don't run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking, and we don't use analytics cookies at this time. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy and add a cookie-consent notice where required.
How we share it
We don't sell or rent your information to anyone. A verified-platform introduction is only ever forwarded after you've given explicit consent to that specific introduction, and only to the platform named on the page you submitted from — never to the company named in a scam report, and never automatically (a team member reviews and sends each one). Report and help-request data isn't shared outside our team except where we're legally required to disclose it.
How long we keep it
We keep submitted data for as long as needed to handle your request, plus a reasonable period afterward for abuse-prevention and record-keeping purposes. You can ask us to delete your data sooner — see Your rights below.
Your rights
Wherever you're located, you can ask us to: tell you what data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Contact us at [your contact email — e.g. [email protected]] to make any of these requests, and we'll respond as required by the law that applies to you (for example the GDPR if you're in the EU/UK, or applicable US state privacy laws).
Children's privacy
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes, and we'll update the date below when we do.
