Why the distinction matters
“My adviser has failed” does not by itself tell you where your investment is held. The adviser, product provider and custodian may be different businesses. Start by identifying them from your original documents. A provider's statement can help establish whether an asset still exists independently of the failed adviser.
Companies House records the liquidation of company 03622891. The FCA names Grace Jones and Karyn Jones of Parker Andrews as joint liquidators. Its customer helpline is 01603 284284. Obtain current instructions through the FCA's linked notice or Parker Andrews' official site, not a caller claiming to be handling your refund.
What the advice complaints show
Two published Ombudsman decisions provide more than a general warning. DRN-6114300 concerns Mr and Mrs H's £195,000 investment in BHC. DRN-6166789 concerns Mr H's £85,000 BHC investment and an initial £25,000 Godwin investment. The complaints about advice were upheld.
These decisions concern the same household. Adding them together as separate victim families would exaggerate the evidence. Nor does an award prove that compensation has reached the customer. The decisions set out calculations and limits, not a simple promise to refund every investment in full.
For your own claim, the important comparison is between what the adviser recommended, your circumstances at the time and the risks explained to you. Preserve the suitability report, risk questionnaire and original brochure. A later fall in value alone does not establish unsuitable advice.
Which route applies to your problem?
- Money or assets held for you: ask the liquidators what their assessment shows and whether they need a claim or ownership evidence.
- Advice you believe was unsuitable: retain the recommendation and complaint history. Ask the liquidators and FSCS about the applicable route and eligibility.
- An existing Ombudsman case or decision: keep the case number and decision. Do not assume liquidation cancels it or that a second application is required; follow the service's instructions.
The FCA describes possible FSCS protection for eligible client-money or custody shortfalls, including certain distribution costs, up to £85,000. This is not a guaranteed cheque, not a limit that applies identically to every type of complaint and not protection for ordinary market losses. The liquidators and FSCS must establish the position.
Do you need to pay someone to claim?
You can approach the liquidators and FSCS directly. The FCA warns that claims-company or legal fees may reduce what customers receive. Ask what a paid intermediary would actually do before signing an agreement.
Keep any request for a “release fee” separate from genuine written liquidation costs. Verify it independently. Our recovery-service checking guide explains the difference between help with a claim and an unsupported promise of recovery. If you need help sorting out your Chandler King documents, request a free telephone consultation. We can explain the different routes and the questions to ask, without promising compensation.
