How the contact turned into an investment
The DFI alert, dated 31 August 2026, describes a Washington resident approached on Reddit by someone calling herself Clare. Communication moved to text messages and WhatsApp, then to a purported crypto platform branded Crypto World at btc.cm-max.com.
The person reportedly began with a small payment, saw profits on the platform and increased the deposits to approximately $764,000 over three months. Those visible gains helped persuade the person to keep paying. They did not establish that a genuine investment account held the displayed money.
What happened when a withdrawal was requested?
The complaint describes this sequence:
- A withdrawal was blocked, allegedly because of money-laundering concerns.
- A security deposit was demanded.
- A claim that funds had been seized and the account risked a police investigation was followed by an unlocking fee.
- A further demand cited a 30% personal income tax.
Despite further payments, the person reportedly obtained no withdrawal. The alert gives a total reported loss of about $990,000. This is the total in the complaint, not an extra loss to add to the earlier $764,000.
DFI has not verified these allegations or losses. The account nevertheless gives a specific reason for concern: each supposed solution created another payment demand rather than a withdrawal. That is the basis of our fraud assessment, not the website’s name or appearance.
A demand for “tax” is not proof of a tax debt
Do not pay a platform or an unfamiliar wallet simply because a message mentions tax, police or anti-money-laundering rules. Ask which authority issued the demand, the reference number and where it can be checked independently. Use the authority’s own website to find its contact details.
This does not mean legitimate investments have no tax obligations. It means a private message cannot establish that a new crypto transfer is an official tax payment or that paying it will release your balance.
If you paid btc.cm-max.com
Build one timeline covering the first Reddit contact, WhatsApp messages, deposits, withdrawal request and each later demand. For every transfer, preserve the amount, date, network, receiving address and transaction hash. Label the initial deposits and later fees separately.
Notify the bank or crypto exchange used to send the funds through its official support channel. Ask it to record the destination as suspected fraud and explain any steps still available for your payment. Report the matter to local police. US readers can also use FBI IC3. A report is useful evidence, but it does not guarantee recovery.
If you installed remote-access software at someone’s request, disconnect that access and secure banking and email accounts from a trusted device. Never give a recovery caller your wallet’s recovery phrase.

Alphavista Exchange
alphavistaexchange.com
Alphavista Exchange advertised investment plans paying up to 300% per trade alongside instant withdrawals and insurance of up to $1 million. Its claimed authorisations were not matched to Alphavista in the CySEC and Seychelles FSA lists checked on 4 November 2026. These combined warning signs support our suspicion of possible fraud. Do not send money on the strength of these claims. The offer described here comes from indexed copies; the website did not open during the latest check.

FXJunction
fxjunction.com
FXJunction links traders to signal providers, but a broker account balance and FXJunction credits are different things. Its FAQ sets a $100 minimum for redeemable credits and excludes bonus credits. On 4 November 2026, the FAQ said providers keep 70%, or 80% for referred copiers, while the provider page promised 90%. Ask which terms apply to your account. This inconsistency and an old complaint justify scrutiny, but do not prove fraud.

HOS Broker / AtlasBrokerOption
hosbroker.site ws.hosbroker.site statsglt.hosbroker.site
HOS Broker searches lead to hosbroker.site, a trading page using several different names. Its withdrawal-policy link opens no policy, and its legal-page link returned an error. We consider these serious warning signs of possible fraud and would not deposit while the operator and withdrawal rules remain unclear.
